Red dot yellow dot? was created by Lambert
Can someone remind me, on tyres the yellow dot is the lightest point of the tyre and should sit on the valve hole. The red dot is the highest point and should correspond to the lowest point of the wheel if indicated. If not it should go to the valve hole and additional balance is necessary? Is that right?

I can tell you that the yellow dot is aligned with the valve on all my gen4 tyres

Thanks. That is what I thought. I'll aim for that when I mount the new tyres.

Exactly right, the red dot takes preference if the rim is marked, original Suzuki steel wheels are marked with a blue spot. You want the tyres to run as true to round as possible, you can always stick some more weights on.
If the rim isn't marked the yellow dot goes to the valve, to save a bit of balancing weight.

I suppose it is harder to roll & glue a steel wheel together true*, whereas it is no trouble to skim the alloy round when they finish it in Japan than it is to make it wobbly like they do over here (there is a dimple in the rim on some alloys) :)

Rubery Owen used to make all our wheels, including the legendary "Rostyle". They were about as round as a egg.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Upon receiving the tyres it seems that radar have enough confidence in their products being round that they only have a yellow dot. This in the absence of any other information is going against the valve hole. We will see how accurate they are when I get them balanced.
