Painting alloys? was created by Lambert
I have a set of the nice Suzuki 5 spoke wheels that I am going to put my all terrain tyres on. They're old but in reasonable condition with the odd spider of corrosion but not bad. You would call them 10 foot wheels. Do I want to get into refinishing them with a colour change to something lurid like yellow or blue? It would be a scotchbrigt and rattle can job if I do it and they'll only ever be 5 foot wheels at best. Or do I leave them and embrace the rat look?

That's a conundrum!
I would try the lurid rattle can finish, if you like what you see you can always get them professionally finished in the same colour and keep them for posterity.
If you don't like it just rattle can them many alternative colours and embrace the multi colour  rat look.

Life is too short to be beige.

I refurbished 4 new alloys over Xmas (my new winter set), had to do some filling with putty on a couple and then spray painted and lacqured, it wasn't a difficult job, in fact I was surprised how easy it was to get a good finish. A tip I got was to use playing cards pushed in to the rim, then you can spray the wheels without spraying the tyre.

Prior to changing for the summer set, I re-sprayed a couple of the summer wheels, again not difficult to do, took a couple of days.

Since I bought a bumper pack of wheel paint, I am going to take the allows off my other car and give them a refresh, I will have to do them one at a time and put the [space] saver spare on, so it won't be driven whilst a wheel is been done. I can see this taking most of the summer, one wheel at a time.

A suggestion has been put forward of black with one gold spoke which I like the sound of? It also helps that I happen to have some gold paint and gloss black is cheap enough.

Seems to have escalated. This one is a trial but it was wire wheeled and scotchbrighted and etch primed ready for colour and clear tomorrow.

Thinking that the chosen spoke will be gold from the points of the open side of the bolt hole out to the dimples either side on the rim.

You might also need to install TPMS sensors in order to avoid the warning light.

They're due on the 27th of may. So even if I get the tyres before then the fully mounted on the car after pictures are going to have to wait.

There was some anthracite grey wheel paint available so I went for it. Still needs clear and the next 4 are starting with a darker primer so might cover a bit better. Like the look though.

Also the more I look at it the more I think the gold needs to extend over the rim edge.

Okay so for someone with the painting ability of a 3 year old with a stick I don't think they are bad. I have 5 wheels and 4 tyres so I can select the best ones when all fully dried. Good enough for off road work.
