Low emissions zones in cities

Low emissions zones are appearing all over the country, Manchester's comes in next year.

These low emissions zones are hammering a lot of Land Rover Defenders, as they are classed as commercial vehicles.

Jimnys should be alright, as they are all petrol. The criteria for petrol is Euro 4 or later.

Any tradesperson with a diesel van more than about five years old (Euro 5 or older) is basically stuffed.

The Manchester zone is only for commercial vehicles, cars are exempt, but a lot of the cities are including cars.

The thing is that I can comfortably remember what it was like travelling into and around cities like Leeds in the 1980s and compared to now you can no longer taste the difference in the air compared with the countryside, a white shirt collar isn't discoloured within the day just from all the filth being pumped out. Nowadays just because you can't physically see or taste the impurities doesn't mean that the air is actually clean or that more can't be done to improve it. The sooner Suzuki provide me with a full electric Jimny or the cost of a conversion becomes practical then we all win.

Currently electric vehicles are too expensive, with a few exceptions they are over £30,000.

An electric Jimny would be great but not if it cost £35,000

Newcastle is getting a LEZ and it's the same, buses, taxis, commercial vehicles, but not private cars.

That begs the question what is the new Jimny Light Commercial Vehicle and will it be exempt? Possibly as it will be under the unladen weight limit?

lt should be fine, as it's petrol and will be the latest emissions specifications

lt's diesel that they want rid of, after telling us all to buy one.
