Hello Jimny drivers

I am willing to upgrade the shocks in order to have better ride confort, but without getting a lift, for my mild off road tracks the original lift is more then enough, also to cut of the price of the modification.

Anybody has some experience?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome,
The Jimmy suspension and design is what it is, it's a long way from road vehicle levels of comfort. So you need to lower any expectations of what can be achieved, even with a lift. I've been in plenty of modified vehicles and they are all different, but I would not attribute "road comfort" to any of they.
That said it is possible to alter the characteristics in such away that it may feel better to you as an individual, and changing the spring rates and dampers is the way to go, both can be achieved without a lift.
FIrst step is to fit some quality ADJUSTABLE dampers, the sort that allow you to tune the damping rates. I would go for AVO if they make them to fit, tuning the damping and hopefully achieving a better feel. Lowering tyre pressure can help, so make sure they are not over inflated, some garages put them too high.
Good luck, hope you find what you are after.

I have trailmaster sport dampers on my standard height suspension and they're great. For me. I do a lot of towing so wanted a very controlled ride which I get in bucket fulls. They also allow for good articulation off road. However what they are not is comfortable on broken tarmac roads when travelling solo and unloaded at any kind of reasonable speed. However however on smooth tarmac like one finds at circuits they're amazing.

There are a couple of brands doing 20mm lifts that offer quality springs and adjustable (rebound) dampers. Maybe they would suit.
I thought I saw Cuso with a variable rate spring which might be very nice.
I've also noticed the high quality Japanese suspension systems either have different spring lengths in one kit or adjustable lengths to ensure a level Jimny.
Koni red, bilstein, avo, cuso might fit the bill.
