Hi, I'm looking at getting my first Jimny and found this fourm a lot of help so far.

I Enjoy kayaking and would like to be able to take my kayak with me when I travel. And wondered how the Jimny fairs going long distances with a kayak on the roof e.g. To Italy. How they fair on the motorway with wind at 60mph does it cruise ok.

My kayak weighs 23KG and is 290cm long and I plan on keeping stock suspesion and tryes, I understand the roof limit is 30KG.
Factory roof rails and Thule or Yamika roof bars would be used.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. If you are only using cross bars then you should be OK ish for weight but you will definitely notice it is up there especially in a side wind. I would suggest driving with a little decorum and you will be fine. It will have a noticed increase fuel consumption.

No issues carrying a Trapper 12. Weight @ 17.2 KG. Way more aerodynamic than a roof tent or box. Has little impact on motorway performance. I'd happily drive to Italy. BTW, big fan of Frontrunner's Statchits.

I have a 15ft touring kayak I carry on roof bars. I haven't done more than 50 miles in one trip but for what I have done it drove completely fine and sits happily at 70mph. I guess you will get pushed around a little bit more in sidewinds, moreso if you fitted a suspension lift.

Would you advocatea means to stabilise the front of the kayak to the front of the Jimny?

Roger

I just use the 2 straps over the centre of the kayak, spaced equally either side of the widest part. My bars are directly moiunted to the roof, so spaced slightly wider than ones that mount onto the factory rails.
