My Jimny went for the pre MOT check today and mechanic said he can't believe how rusty the body of the Jimny is. He's quoted £2000 to fix, I don't understand how considering last year mot only had advisory for rust. Is he having me on or can a 2007 Jimny really have this much rust? Should I take for a second opinion or try to just sell it with MOT fail?

An unprotected Jimny will corrode for fun. And depending on where you are getting it repaired at garage rates is going to be quite painful.

They might have under-estimated it last year or over-estimated it this year. Did he say where the rust was?

Definately take it for a second opinion.

It's been said already, but yes it's possible (rust), and yes get a second opinion.
Hope it's not that bad.

Also be aware that mot welding is often not the same as restoration welding especially from a general garage. I would look for a more specialist restoration team if I were paying that kind of money.

£2000 seems horrendously expensive.

Last MOT I had a lot of work done to get my 1999 Jimny passable and it only cost £600 - that was new body mounts, rear arches and sills!

Not sure what £2000 will get you or how bad it would have to be to justify that - I would get a 2nd opinion for sure.
