Hello Jimny fans

I am very keen on getting myself a Jimny but there doesn’t seem to be many around down here in south Essex.

Most of the Jimnys I have seen have rust issues, so I think I will have to look further afield and if necessary buy one sight unseen (eek!!).

Can anyone recommend any Jimny specialist dealers that I could trust.

Mr Jimny up in Huddersfield have a few Jimnys in stock which look OK (according to the MOT history) has anyone any experience with them?

I am looking for a 2005 to 2008 unmolested Jimny.

Thank you

Welcome to the forum. If at all possible I would strongly urge you to up your budget to allow for vehicles after 2009. This is when the bearings in the gearbox were upgraded as they were causing premature gearbox failure. The earlier 05 to 09 boxes can be rebuilt with the newer sealed version bearings but it is typically a £500 plus repair at a specialist. That's not to say that a specific car might have been repaired but you would need evidence of it in the service history. This only applies to manual gearboxes, auto ones are fine. I have never used the Huddersfield place personally but I have heard mixed reports, enough that I would want to see the vehicle in person first. When I was looking for my Spare Jimny I bought it sight unseen from Angus Mackinnon in Uttoxeter but it was only 3 years old and less likely to have major problems.

Many thanks for the advice.

I will try to find a 2010 plate or later, hopefully rust will be less of an issue too.

Cheers

Hi Jimboy, welcome to the forum.....

Terry Lofley & Son (Shirebrook Notts.) the bodyshop that did my restoration / conversion have got an 11' plate that is absolutely mint. They put a new carpet in it and I saw it stripped, the cleanest Jimny I have ever seen, not even any discolouration, never mind rust. They cleaned the underside and coated it then waxoyled all the cavities. It should be good in twenty years, they really know their stuff.

It has been stripped, cleaned and looks a treat.

I would say that you could buy it blind with confidence, I think it's just over 100k but has a full Suzuki history, even the last service was a dealership..

Around 6.5k...

His office number is 01623 742292, if you are interested... If you can't wait til Monday, PM me and I'll send his mobile.

Mr Jimny, better known as Wyke Motors, usually have a decent selection of Jimnys.
I bought an 04 plate, red over silver Mode of him two years ago at £4000 and 32,000 miles on the clock.
I still have the car and it is totally rust free (seriously) apart from the kingpin bearings both sides and general oil changes of diffs transfer and gear boxes and engine i have had no problems what so ever.
The only thing i would advise is ignore the 'new' MOT that will be given with any car you buy of him OR ANY CAR DEALER as they all get their cars pushed through mot's by their friendly mot station.
My car has just clocked 34,050 at sixteen years old and i can't decide whether to sell it or not as it costs me nothing to run apart from petrol.
Oh, and a new battery.
