Gen4 Bull Bar - Road Legal?

More

Could this be an actual road legal Bull Bar?

Front-Protection Concept Plus

I actually like the look of this, but does German:

"Our front bars have passed the latest European test standards and are delivered with an engraved E-test mark. An additional TÜV demonstration is therefore no longer necessary."

Equate to UK road legal?

Now I know it's not going to be as solid and bomb proof as the Iron-man and ARB full metal bumpers, but it's going to be a lot lighter as well.

E marked is as good as it gets. It's a certificate of conformity for type approval in whichever market the number relates to.

As it states is made in Germany and it's sold in Germany then it either conforms or they are stupid as they would be open to prosecution both for selling and for construction. Therefore I would say it's legit.

Edit: it says in some other text that they manufacture AND wholesale products so it might not be made in Germany.

Still it says in French that it is CEE approved so looks pretty good to me

It appears to attach to the tiedown points and sheet metal in front of the radiator if I read the pic correctly.
Not sure what protection that would give if correct. Maybe I'm mistaken in understanding the attachment.

Crash, that is what i got from the fitting instructions. But like I said it will not be as solid and sturdy as a full on metal bumper, perhaps that is the only way to get a Bull Bar that is E approved?

The thing is it's entirely possible to produce a cosmetic bar that looks good but is sufficiently deformable to meet current impact criteria and get it homologated. But it will always be a cosmetic thing.

I agree Lambert, but a good cosmetic one will appeal to many I'm sure. As it has been well discussed on here, there can be grey areas with the full metal bumpers. So this German one could be a good compromise for those that want the look.

That's almost too subtle, it's hard to see that you've got a bar installed at all, although that's probably just a photo thing. Does look to reduce approach angle a bit too?

I had emailed them last night asking for confirmation on it being road legal in the UK. I got this reply this morning.

Good morning,

thank you for your inquiry.
Our front protection system (bullbar) has the European -mark and is shipped with the European homologation documents.
The European laws should be valid and recognised in all the European countries.

More than that, we cannot certify.

I quite like it Soeley! It seems a little pricey for what it is though. I guess it would offer a small amount of sacrificial protection, but doesn't enable/improve recovery options or winch mounting. If it was half the price I think it'd be a sensible option for most weekend warriors.

For those who can access the Aus Facebook Forum, a small traffic accident yesterday may ultimately result in a write off, Bull Bar attached! :(

Edit: Also, tonight on the same Facebook Page (Aus JB74) are many reports of poor workmanship when fitting lift kits and other under-car accessories. I hope the UK has better scrutiny of the qualifications of those fitting the accessories in the workshops.

I was under the impression that most Australian states had a fairly stringent examination ("engineering") process for modified vehicles? There's no such thing in the UK. Anybody can fit any part without checks, and there is a strong market for non approved modification parts. Basically if you own a welder you can produce and sell vehicle parts! Typically inspections only happen after accidents have taken place. www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/court-hear...four-children-364708
