Air con not working ?pump was created by Beccalb
Hi Everyone,

I'm a newbie to here (though not to Jimny ownership - first ever car and had for 10 years, now onto my second) and completely not mechanically minded in the slightest.

Took my jimny in for air con regas as I thought that was why it wasn't blowing cold, however the garage has said they tried to re gas it but it still wasn't working. He obviously didn't look into it in huge detail as I'd only popped in for the re gas but he said he thinks it's probably the pump and that they're usually around the £400/£500 mark.

Am I being had on the price or is this pretty standard? (I'm really mistrusting having been had by our local Suzuki garage for £100s of unnecessary work on my old jimny).

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. I suppose that for a garage to supply and fit and regas then that could be a fair price. But it seems a bit expensive compared with opening the windows to let some air in?

Hi and welcome along.
I tend to do all my own work so everything looks expensive to me these days, but I suspect it's on the mark if they plan to fit a new pump, not so much if it's secondhand or reconditioned unit.
It could be the electric clutch on the pump is not engaging, a lot cheaper if it's this. Someone did a photo collection showing it being fixed, so a possibility?
You could check if this is the issue yourself by looking at the Aircon pump pulley. The centre of the pulley is the clutch, it's stationary when the AC is off (outer of pully still turning), when the AC is on the centre turns with the outer (clutch engaged).
Failure or just rust on these is more of a known issue tha tthe pump failing.

Mine is a 2007, and I am owner number 2. When I got it, the A/C didn't work, but because it hadn't been used for so long the seals had gone in the pump (re-gassed but leaked out). I had a 2nd hand one fitted nearly 3 years ago and all is good. Don't be scared of getting a used one from a reputable supplier.
