I raised the 40psi question with one of the Suzuki importing/distribution companies.

The high tyre pressures are part of the shipping process, like the tie-down loops under the car.

Don't blame the kids in the workshop, most people just don't know they arrive in the country that way!

As the driver, its your responsibility to check these things, it is written in the front of the Owners' Manual and the tyre pressures are on the door pillar!

In the UK we have sales of goods laws that state a product should be fit for purpose. A supplying dealer knows this hence the pre delivery inspection prior to handing over to the customer. Something as simple as the tyre pressure should be common knowledge to all the staff in the service dept. I can assure you that for every new owner who checks the pressure on the forecourt there will be a thousand who assume the dealership are capable of doing their job, and just drive off thinking their new car is perfect and as it should be.

As young apprentices we were tought "if in doubt go 30", it still sounds reasonable today. Chris

I completely agree with your responses.
Down here if a customer on the forecourt was to pull a tyre pressure gauge out of his pocket, then check the tyres and ask for them to be adjusted, he would be treated to a set of loose wheel nuts on his return visit!! Just do it at home. :(

I once had a new alfa romeo delivered with all the (asymmetric) tyres rotating the wrong way. It was also missing the ariel and fuel filler cap. I think they skipped the pdi altogether.

That's impressive. I have had a Honda Civic returned to me after a service with the oil warning light on, that made me happy.

I once picked up my Fiesta XR2 ( bought new, loved it and owned for 13 years) from the local Ford dealer after a service and it wouldn’t move without horrendous grinding from the wheel bearings. They claimed it wasn’t them and was fine when they parked it. Had several issues with that dealer including regularly jacking it up via the floor pan and damaging the under seal so started going to another.

1999 T registered Jimny. Early G13BB SOHC engine.
