We’ve gone for the 2018 yellow Jimny SZ5 l found at a local dealer. Took an extended test drive and we both loved it.
So long as the buyer of our Land Rover doesn’t back out we should get the Jimny in a couple of weeks.

Yeah looking forward to it. Still got my Defender 110.

We found the Jimny drove great, ride quality on poor roads was much better than l thought it would be after reading reviews by the motoring press.
It’s certainly better than a Defender, and a lot better than our VW Up GTi.
Also noise levels were lower than we expected after reading reviews.
Certainly no worse than some of the cars we test drove, so long as you drive it in consideration of the type of vehicle that it is.
As in, not try to do 80mph down the outside lane as some road tests do.

Well done on finding one, I am sure you are both going to love it.
It's a very high smile per mile vehicle and you can just let the rest of the world rush past relaxed and smiling.

That’s the feeling we got driving it. Performance was about the same as our Defender and the driving style is similar, sit back, set the cruise, stay loose, let the Audi’s Merc’s and BMW’s fly past at 90.

Already looking at a few modifications, l asked the dealer to fit front mud flaps and they are going to Waxoyl it.
I don’t mind Waxoyl on rust free metal, on rusty metal it can just hide the corrosion.

We were amazed at how well the little Jimny handled bad tarmac. We deliberately took it down the worst roads we knew, and it went over them very well.

Certainly not “like a bucking bronco” as one road test commented (although they still loved it)

I threw it round a few corners and understeer does occur, as to be expected, my missus will never notice as she won’t be doing that in it.

Body roll was noticeable but nothing to write home about, remember we both drive Defenders, again driven at sensible speed the Jimny is great fun.

We didn’t try it off road, but we did another motorway run.
Engine noise increases over 70mph, again we won’t be doing that in it anyway.
I will probably look at fitting some extra sound insulation anyway, maybe under the bonnet and on the firewall if it’s available.
But, as in a Defender, it’s nice to be connected to what the vehicle is doing and not be completely isolated from it.
Makes you feel like you are actually driving the thing, rather than just moving controls to make it work.

Congratulations you won't regret it! One of the very few depreciation proof cars around at the moment.

There is a lot of anecdotal evidence that changing the OEM shocks for some better ones sorts out the body roll, handling and crashing over speed bumps issue. You can also sit a lot better in the motorway as over 70 things can get hairy.

It is on my list of next things to do for sure.

Congratulations! Welcome! You seem to really understand what the limitations of the car are and are not asking anything of it that is outside its comfort zone. I hope you have many mods to come!

Nice one, congratulations on taking the plunge.

It just shows that most of the online reviewers, actually don't know what they are talking about doesn't it.
