Did anyone see the program vintage voltage ...or something like that ? They took a Rover Defender ripped out the engine etc and replaced it with a Tesla unit and 16 batteries to get the 200 mile range.. Remade the diffs and transfer unit to run it in 4wd

Interesting seemed very capable in the mud and terrain.

It was on Quest last night so should be available on i player.

Wouldn't have been cheap but the engineering was interesting.

How much did they spend on this one? Last week it was about £17K for a 60 mile range. Granted not much room in a Fiat 500 for batteries. If you put that £17K in a separate bank account for petrol, I wonder how long it would last you?

I stumbled on an outfit like this in central London (arches under the bridge place).
They specialised in classics, I saw a lovely 'Bobby Ewing' style Merc waiting to be handed back to the owner. A nice touch was all the mechanicals that had been removed were boxed up and given back to the customer. In theory the car could be rebuilt to original spec. Apparently it's a good congestion charge beater ( for the well heeled at least). Chris

Just watched it. I don't think it mentioned the total cost on this one? But when they were faffing with the hand brake, I did wonder if plumbing a hydraulic one into the brakes would've been easier?

Oh, and the off-road test they did, it did sound like a kids remote control car :woohoo:

My thoughts exactly, they quoted £10.000 for the motor alone....but as for the handbrake it'd been easier to just fit a hydraulic system that would be more reliable than an electric connection in the mud and water.

No mention also of how they kept the air lift suspension. But it really didn't sound real did it?

Heard them mention £19K worth of batteries, so that's £29K on just two major components. Then fabrication and labour on top. Got to ask is it really worth the cost?

if it came with the legendary "I want my mummy " pro mod dragster acceleration feature then yeah I see the attraction and its cheap compared to other ways of going that quickly on 4 wheels.

Looking for a nice clean and straight LHD Jimny..... Not any more.
Got one that seems to have been magnatized and driven through the "Big Jimny Bits" parts stores too quickly so it missed a few items.
