Strange, the day after I watched this I saw a Dutton Phaeton on the road. They’re maybe 30 years old now and look a little like a Lotus 7, fibreglass body and based upon Ford parts. Haven’t seen a Dutton in maybe 20 years or more. I bought Kit Car magazines for a few years though didn’t end up making or buying one. Dutton was a big volume seller of okay quality but were never of great style. A car built to a budget I’d say. I do recall that they created a huge hype over a forthcoming design which looked like something you could use as an everyday car for much less money. Good looking artists impression but when it eventually launched it was absolutely hideous and bore little resemblance to the drawings.

I liked Lotus 7 designs but couldn’t fit in one. I quite fancied a Ginetta G15 or a G25. I also recall a Rickman Ranger which was a boxy SUV car, much like a Jimny but built from a Ford Escort.
