Roof cargo platform for Jimny. was created by latenigh
I accedently built a roof platform that is to heavy for the Jimny.
50kg in total with the front box loaded up with gear.

The working lights and the compressor are remote controlled.

Maybe I have to acquire a vehicle with greater roof load capacity.

Thanks.

The compressor can easily be demounted if the 10 meter airhose is not enough.

What a great piece of kit you have put together! Looks great.

As you say, seems a little heavy for a Jimny roof... I think it's the same as my rack and tent!

I'll be attempting to put my air compressor under the bonnet out the way I think...

I would agree, there is a lot of heavy stuff inside the boxes. I would probably move all heavy things lower into the car and I would definitely get a roof rack or roof bars that are directly bolted to the roof. I would not trust at all the original roof attachments, even with less load. They are made of plastic and if you go on uneven terrain there are quite some forces to the roof rack.

I know of roof top tents (not Jimny) that came loose with just two properly mounted roof bars, and you will see that the real off road roof top tents or roof racks do have at least three mountings on each side if not four.

I have yet to weld the "feets" to the "legs" on this platform.

They will use the factory two M6 bolts sticking up in each corner.
I will remove the original roof rails.

I was liking it until I saw no continuation laterally between the mounting legs.......connect those and I still like it.

A Jimny gets "really" interesting with 200+kg on the roof going around corners!

Well you've put a lot of effort in to it! Where are you planning to go that needs all that on the roof? Can some of those things be inside the car or engine bay instead?

Fishing and camping trips.
And also as a daily drive.

I will need to organise the interior of the Jimny to fit most of the fear.

Must be some pretty serious trips! For camping I put everything in the car, except the 2nd bicycle which goes on the spare wheel. I avoid carrying stuff on the roof whenever possible. I've found its harder to secure, wastes fuel and I like to take in green lanes whenever I got so there's always a low branch or 2 waiting to decapitate a tall load.
