Luckily the Chancellor didn't raise fuel tax, but he did whack £5 on VED for us GEN 4 owners, it is now £150, I don't know how much it has gone up for the GEN3

There is some scaremongering that they are looking to charge the first year rate forever to punish people who have "dirty" cars, so that will be £540.
I suspect that there will be a fair few GEN 4 up for sale if that happens, as the rumour is it will be backdated to affect all cars registered since April 2017, not just ones registered after the date. source www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article...ivers-pay-2-000.html

My old one would have been £165.......

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

I'm off for a coffee with my financial adviser - might be the time for a quick sale of my 'filthy' G4 Jimny before the market caves in. Might need to realise some working capital pronto but what would I replace it with? Actually I might just try out 'Webuyanycar' and see if I can get £5k for it.

I should never have sold the old one. :(

£390 extra a year would be another £7800 to find out of my pension over the life of the car :S

Should have bought that tax free Range Rover, or a Chevy Blazer or something

The same rumours were going around for post 2006 cars years ago...

In the end they didn't do it as it would have been too costly to the average household.

I would more expect they would re do the road tax bands rather than modify the existing ones, for example I can see them taxing an auto jimny more highly than a manual.

I think they would have legal issues back dating it beyond the date that it was announced as the people buying at the time "didn't know"
