Whatcha. Has anyone successfully managed to separate the chrome S from its mount on the bonnet badge? I'm wanting to wrap mine in the same yellow as my mirrors. Is it just little tabs or is it a little bit more complicated than that?

Yes I've done it!

Depending on which badge you have on yours, the S sits in a small recess of raised plastic, on the plastic grille panel.

I'm about to step out to work (nights :( ) but I will send some photos of it later - but from memory I think there are some small location pins on the back of the S, and it was glued on - just took a lot of careful prising off.with the tip of an old small electrical screwdriver that had the tip of its blade bent over at 45 degrees to assist in getting it off.

It will need bonding back on and I would suggest scratching the surface up nice and coarsely and using ideally, some polyerethane adhesive such as this one but you might get away with silicone sealant, bond it back on

Excellent thanks. So a bit of temperature sensitive adhesive, would a bath in hot water be enough or would it need more heat than that?

Hi Lambert. I'm (very surprisingly) just back in from work and it's not even 23:00 - thought I wouldnt be back here until 08:00 tomorrow, but going out to the workshop now will wake every man and his dog up so I will get more info tomorrow.

I didn't put mine in hot water when I removed the 'S', I just did it as it was at room temp, but that's not a bad idea and certainly worth trying.
Bear in mind the chrome 'S' is fairly thin and has the potential to break if you overdo it levering it off.

An alternative glue when re-attaching it could be one of those hot-glue guns - but I dont know how well that would stand up to extreme cold and heat temperatures.
The polyurethane adhesive I mentioned earlier is used to bond things together that you don't want to ever come apart - friends of mine with kit-cars swear by it, and I've used it for various jobs on my vintage car where rivets welding, or soldering has not been a practical option.

Yeah. Something to do with hating chrome on cars. The S is going to be a test piece for wrapping something intricate. If it is too fiddly then paint is the answer.

I think I have something very like that in a double sided tape, once applied it's there forever. Job for the weekend.

Here you go, Lambert

Here's what it looks like when removed.
The manufacturer's glue was mostly around the edges on mine. so you will need to gently prise it off a little at a time, carefully working around it . Mine was on pretty solidly - but you may find yours is different. Looking at it closely again the glue might have been that sticky foam stuff often used for car badges - Im sure you will know what I mean by that.

Pictures showing reverse side of badge and how thin it is. No lugs on the rear - it's flat. Hope this helps

I do not like chrome either. I just rubbed the chrome with a 3M pad and brush painted. Tapping it with the tip of the brush left no brush marks. Will do the same to the other badges some day. Or just remove them maybe.

I would debadge the back door but management are against that. The other alternative is to replicate the lettering in vinyl, that way I get yellow and they still have the badges, kinda.
