Old maybe but still relevant, it demonstrates how knowing your vehicle and picking suitable lines is so very important.

Hate it when people post this video for this type of discussion. That vid mostly shows the difference between drivers and the line taken, pretty much nothing else!

There's little benefit from having dislocating suspension or springs held in by clamps as at that point there's no weight on the drooping wheel for its tyre to make any grip on the ground.
It looks impressive but that's about all you achieve.

I prefer a retained spring system, but dislocating systems do have uses and advantages, stability being one major one. And you will still have positive pressure on the ground with such a setup.

Sorry but i disagree. In the video the series with lockers takes a straight line at a modest speed and makes the climb with little real effort, the 90 with it's dislocated suspension is shown following the same line with about the same speed and fails the climb on that line. Then we see the Jimny take a different mor appropriate line to it's size and it again makes the climb. As a relatively simple graphic explanation of the relative merits of traction, articulation and line choice that video is valid. It demonstrates that one can spend monies on clever transmission upgrades or huge suspension upgrades or you can learn how a relatively cheap and standard ish vehicle behaves and what you and it are capable of and drive it to the terrain with just as much success as an expensive tricked out truck.
