Osram Silverstar and Nightbreaker products have factory stated typical life span which is significantly shorter than for Osram's ordinary light bulbs (less shorter for Silverstar, much shorter for Nightbreaker). Stated reason is technical limitations - higher luminosity, more material fatigue etc.

I've used Night Racers in bikes for as long as I can remember. They look like Nightbreakers but packed as singles. Bikes tend to have the lights wired permanently on so get an easier/harder life depending on your viewpoint.
I find them less prone to failure through vibration and would imagine heat is the prime reason for shorter life. Its a much brighter bulb so who cares.
