Hi. Long time member, coming home.

So short story.
Test drove a new Jimny 2018 in Dec last year, loved it, said can I have one, once the dealer stopped laughing he said late 2019 maybe, saddened I went home and dreamed of the day I would get my spiritual successor to my old O2 which died an MOT death 3 years ago.
This week, phone call, guess what, we have a new SZ5 in silver (only wanted a Blue or Silver), do you want it ???
Today, deal done, arrives late August.

So I have some questions for new Jimny owners.

1. I have dogs, does anyone have any experience with back seat covers, or is there a way to drop the back seats so it does not have a gap from the back of the front seats to the folded flat head of the back seat (where a dog could fall).
2. Full roof rack. I will need one for a wheelchair from time to time. Seen some nice flat ones, but not cheap. Anyone have one and recommendations.
3. Do I really need parking sensors or a rearview camera? Does it make a big difference in everyday life?

Hope you guys can help, and roll on August.

Thanks everyone.

Hello, good news on the Jimny.
1. I would think you'd have to make something up to fill the gap, or get a dog cage or fit a dog cover/tarp, the dog could lay in it like a hammock.

2. I just have the Thule roof bars, same as the Suzuki ones but a third of the price. Sorry can't help with the rack.

3. I have the camera fitted and think it is worth it. Withe the rear window being quite high and the tyre stuck up it is quite blind back there. I use it more for that last few feet of reversing, the distance lines are pretty good.

As I found out the other week there's now a legal requirement to have animals restrained in vehicles. It has to take the form of either a cage or harness that prevents them from interfering with the driver. To that end a harness that doesn't let doggo into the gap would work or as mentioned a cage.

I have big dogs and still have not be brave enough to get them in the back! With the rear seats folded down and the front seats pushed fairly far back there isn't much space in between but a dog cage would probably be the safest option. I have the reversing camera and I do use it a lot, i wouldn't say you need the parking sensors with it but then again the camera isn't a necessitie either.

The reversing sensors are very useful as the various beepings let you know when to stop and still be able to open the door, stop without hitting anything, just about to hit,....

I still see drivers on the move with 'lap dogs' quite regularly and yesterday I counted many folk texting and driving and they don't care a jot about being spotted. Most outrageous activity was someone driving with an open laptop computer on the dual carriageway. Funny what you spot from a Jimny.

Returning to the original questions - rear sensors might be helpful - I didn't spec them but yesterday in a tight space I was wishing I had.

Yep. I’m thinking about the camera instead of the sensors. Decisions, decisions.
