Sat nav question was created by Andy2640
Had anyone else managed to put more than the postcode into there SZ5 sat nav yet? For some reason it will only allow the postcode, and never allows me to add a street name?

Is the SD card in the slot at the top?

Hello George,

Just checked... Yes it is.

In short, no. The built in Sat Nav is not the most user friendly.

If I need sat nav I just plug my phone in and use Waze/google/apple as the android auto/apple car play works really well.

The Dealer loaded my address at pre-delivery. After 5 months the S/N now has a little circle chasing its tail like a puppy. It doesn't find anything to receive. :(

Inbuilt satnav is usually pants, USB cable, Android auto/Apple Carplay and Google maps or Waze is definitely the way to go.

It is COMPLETELY OBVIOUS, so obvious it wasn't even worth mentioning in the "manual"

Simply enter the country first "United Kingdom"

Then where it says post code type the name of the town or hamlet (If I pick the nearest large town/city it won't find my tidly little street out in the sticks)
Then you can type the street name
Then you can type the number.

(Actually, I googled the other boys who have been saddled with this expensive piece of junk before, it is the same for Lexus, Toyota, Nissan and I believe Audi)

I'm currently working on adding speed cameras, I can add them as POIs alright, I need to wait for some dry weather* to go for a drive to check if I've got the warnings to work properly, and I can't get custom icons to appear from BMPs either, not in 22x22 or 24x24.

More concerning to me is when I wear my polaroids, the display shows what looks like some sort of stress, I predict a failure fairly soon.

The Connect doesn't show those rainbows, quite annoying when driving along.

* it is not going out on a wet road until I have got the dinitrol applied.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

That is what I'm thinking, and that it is liable to crack soon.........

I tried pushing & pulling the bezel, and the rainbows don't move, so it must be a mount under the bezel.

Is that not just an effect of polorized lenses on certain screen types?

I have got it to play videos!

It doesn't believe in mkv files, but will play h264 encoded .mp4 files, I played a 1920x1080 @ 2000kbs. I suspect the screen is 320 x 240 though, maybe as high as 640 x 480, but I cant tell.

Eventually I figured out that if you touch the video part of the screen once whilst it is playing all the overlays go away.

It won't play .ass subs with the same name as the video file though. Probably the only way is to burn hardsubs into the video and rencode it to 640x480. Time to fire up all2avi again, haven't used it since win xp...

As regards the rainbows, when I get around to fitting the camera, the head unit has to come out, I'll have a look at flicking off the bezel and seeing if there is some sort of fixing to "adjust" and get rid of them.

I only wear the polaroids when the sun is shining, so it won't be a problem again this month as far as the weather forecast goes ;)

It is only "United Kingdom" for some of us George ;)

I was actually pointing out that we can't enter "England" etc...

Your unit has likely gone the same way as the one in my Nissan. That has lost all sensitivity from the GPS receiver, and it won't admit there are any satellites about. However, I fixed it with a magnetic GPS Ariel, I open the window and stick it to the roof over my head if I need the SatNav.

The Bosch unit is well known for flaking out in the heat, which is why they fit them where they get maximum exposure to heat from the windows and in the NIssan, the heater outlets as well. I expect it just needs a bit of reflowing around the boards like all those PS4s and Xboxes they fix on youtube.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
