My rear diff has a bit of slop ie. When in slow traffic on and of the clutch it knocks a little I was wondering as I can't find any thing on it, can the diff be shimmed to take the play out and if so how easy is that to do.

It can be adjusted but it is fairly specialised work getting the backlash right. A gearbox rebuild place would be a good start. Alternatively you may find a good second hand one for less than a rebuild. Alternatively alternatively you could always go for it and get something interesting built up like an automatic torque bias lsd or a locking one?

Right ok I was hoping maybe it might be a bit simpler than that but thank you. I don't have the beans to go for an built locking diff. I think its ok for the moment just putting feelers out for if and when really

Its worth taking the rear prop off and seeing if the play is in the t-box, prop or diff first before taking it all apart to swap a diff and not fix the problem.
The rear prop should have grease nipples for the sliding part (maybe the UJs as well?). that is worth a look also.
