Does anyone know what the VED is for a UK Jimny registered after 1st April 19?

I have just got my new Jimny which was registered 30th March and one of the positives I was looking forward to was the reduced annual tax at £140 a year.

Martins Weekly money tips e-mail just landed in my account bringing to my attention the annual hike for all cars.
On checking I discovered it has gone up £5 to £145 but I then saw a new VED table for cars registered after April 2019.

In this table it shows vehicles with CO2 rates between 151 and 170 Grammes now have to pay £530 per year.
Hopefully I am mistaken but my understanding is this would be manual and auto Gen 4 Jimny’s registered after From now onwards.?

I expect that will be for just the 1st year new registration VED value, which will be in the on the road price. It'll be the following year where it'll drop to the 140 (or thereabouts given annual increases) and continue at that lower rate.

Some details in the table here: www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article...iked-April-2019.html

I suspect it won't take long for them to get back to previous rates meaning they'll be taking as much in VED plus the initial hike on top :(

I think I now get it. So the first year rate is of no importance as it is hidden in the cost of the car/paid by the dealer and then reverts to a standard rate at year 2, which for a Jimny is now £145.

It's actually paid by you, as part of the 'on the road' price of the car. But, yes that's it essentially.

It'll be interesting to see what Suzuki do with the Jimny beyond 2021. I think they'd see themselves being fined quite heavily under the latest EU emissions targets, as its a small car the produces a lot of CO2. 178g/km of CO2 is a long way short of the 95k/km average required by 2021.
