4x4 vs winter

Is it true to say winter never happened?
I added an LJ to my profile but last time I owned one was back in somewhere like 1984.

Well as usual it never happened for Kidsgrove Stoke-on-Trent, and I guess that's it for another year.
Had to drive up to the Derbyshire moorland to find any snow. So I can confirm that summer road tyres appear to be the best choice for me in my location, they cover all 4 seasons, well the seasons we get.
Global warming is making tyre choice a little easier, result.

I was in a briefing yesterday with one of the heiracrchy from flight-planning and they were under the impression that things could in fact change - the message was "winter isn't over until its over" pointing out that much of last year's snow arrived in March. But yes it would be fair to say we haven't exactly had a winter ...Yet

Cool news Max, hope we get a little more winter. Not for everyone, but I like a bit of snow.

Yes wet roads plus all wheel drive.

While I understand the draw of snow for those that love it, its not for me - especially working out on a bleak airfield trying to keep warm.
I live for the summer - hence my leanings towards convertible cars!

l put winter tyres on my Transit Connect van and the difference was remarkable.
The van would drive up snow and ice covered roads with out drama, where cars were spinning their wheels uselessly.
I would say that the van on winter tyres was as good on snow/ice covered roads as our Land Rover was 4x4 on ordinary tyres.
Obviously if you were to put winter tyres on the 4x4 it would be almost unstoppable but it shows what a difference they made on a 2WD vehicle.
The winter tyres were the cheapest l could get as well, Avon Ice Touring ST

I swapped Yokohama Geolanders to the front of my Jimny about 18 month ago, they were the standard Bridgestone Dualers on it.

It's fine for me off road. Difference was a lot more wet braking performance on the road. Didn't take much to trigger the ABS on the older Bridgestones but the Yokohamas are much better.

They're also Three Peak rated so a winter tyre as well as a AT tyre. Not badly priced from £75 a corner from Halfords of all places.

The BMW driver is using no technique he's just stamping his foot on the gas and hoping for the best.

You can tell by the clouds of diesel smoke and wildly spinning wheels.
