Roof cage/rack was created by mresowik
Hi all,
Hi all, I’m looking for a basic roof rack, something flat that mounts to the car instead of the stock bars.
There’s a few on eBay but for £2-300 pounds. Just putting it out here for any suggestions or if anyone had anything basic that they’re looking to upgrade and want to sell on.
Thanks for any responses

Options are limited for one that fits flat low profile
If you're in Europe this could be a good one
www.thesuntop.com/product/jimny-roof-rack.aspx
If not then have one made is the only other option

Make one, its not that hard. This is made from 20 & 25mm electrical conduit and some 2mm plate. Total cost approx £40, but a fair bit of time, pipe bending, welding/grinding and painting.

Just crunching the numbers for nothing more than to show how much things "cost" when you make them yourself once you factor in time etc.
Assuming minimum uk wage at approx £7.40 and it could be assembled / painted in 2 standard working days, including the indicated £40 materials gives a price of £158.40 with no profit margin. Now we need to post and pack it, so thats another £40 so we are at £198.40.
So the selling price (delivered) with no profit has a 40 in it, just the wrong side of the decimal point.

Just for fun.....nice rack and custom made so well worth the none existing selling price !

Ps this makes no attempt to factor in consumables.

Yokohama Geolanders, Sony head unit, NAUTILUS Air Horn, DRL conversion, Rear cargo space, Elvis Bobblehead, transfer Guard, Indian hanging Elephant, Koni Heavy track dampers, Custom SS exhaust, Voodoo Doll, Adventure Rack with LED ight bar, vintage ERIBA caravan usually attached (yes it's slow)

Ah yes, an experienced fabricator working for £7.40/hour (isn't minimum 7.80 now?). You've been spending too long browsing Indeed.

As I said its just for fun. I have no idea what people get paided, just what turns up in my account each month......trained welders / fabricators please adjust the above estimate using the following finger in the air formula and give us a better figure:-

(What you get paid per hr × 16) + 80 = new rack cost price

Or just get the apprentice to do the work at £3.70 per hour!

Just for the record minimum wage 25 and over is currently £7.83, 21 to 24 £7.38, 18 to 20 £5.90, under 18 £4.20 and the poor apprentice.

There is a half dozen companies local to me that seem to have class 2 drivers working for them for minimum. Makes trying to find a job depressing for me at the moment, may as well sit behind a checkout.
