What winch do you have?

It takes up a lot of space as you need to mount it to the chassis rails.

This is called a Vector winch set up. The hook gets connected to the front bumper and a loop of winch rope can he drawn out of the back and connected to something via a snatch block.

This way you can have one winch that can be used front or rear, just not at the same time.

Some clever chap did it to he able to have a front and rear winch in a lower class of a winch challenge where only one winch was allowed. He obviously had an advantage over his competitors.

Then they re-wrote the rules the next season to stop the use of this set up.

I've seen it in use and it works well but you're better off having two winches to he honest.

I have a super winch 8500 lbs I am on a budget at the moment and we looking for the advantage front and rear. There will be a cage in the back of jeep which is mounted to the chassis would it be enough support. Does the rope go up the chassis leg?

You can't really tell too much from this photo but generally the rope goes through a mini fairlead into a tube and out through a fairlead at the front.

Have a look at the Difflock forum and PM someone on there running a Vector set up to see what they are doing. I don't think there is anyone on here running one. They might allow you to go and see their truck and give you advice.

That's because the the winch in the pictures is not a vector system, just a regular winch setup. But that's not to say that this vector winch thing isn't a bit clever. Just takes up too much place and too many downsides to it.

But in regards to the original post.
I'd just install that winch in the front of the Jimny. It's so much easier to work with and much easier to install. The only thing gained from installing it in the rear is a bit better weight distribution.
