Get the gl4/5 out as soon as you can, it's the wrong oil and will be eating the yellow metal in the gearbox. I had some in mine for a couple of months and couldn't get gears when warm, other than that I seem to have been lucky. Halfords sell the correct gl4.

Yes, it must not be GL5 at all, only GL4 or the yellow metal bits wear prematurely.

Change the oil again asap and cross your fingers!

Thanks Kirkynut, but I fear it is to late, apparently the gearboxes on the vvt suffer bearing like noise which is actually synchromesh, ive probably not helped with the oil, the stuff I took out was filthy and watery I thought I was doing good. Im seeing a local gearbox specialist in the morning, if its not to expensive ill get it reconned, but my Jimny is on ebay and gumtree, needs a few other little bits doing and Im no mechanic (and arthritic) so if its to dear it will sadly be going. Thanks for your help, you know your stuff.
