Busta wrote: 1066boy- I was wrong about the rev limiter, I checked this evening. It cuts in at 7,000rpm on the m13a. That's 500rpm past the redline.
Thanks for the update. Mine pulls very well from low revs right through the rev range but stops approximately at 5500rpm.
It never falters at higher revs even around 5000rpm but suddenly at 5500rpm just hits a wall that's why I was asking about
a limiter. Its not really a problem as I very rarely rev it that hard but would like to know why. Any ideas?

Have a look at these callipers....early Vitara ones......vented discs are from a Diesel Jimny.....haven't warped yet!
I did the brakes prior to gaining more power........I have discs on the rear too.
Everything fitted straight on and improved the situation.
Old calliper is on the floor in that picture.
that looks good, do you know the hub size for the brake discs you use by any chance? mine uses the 108.something (larger) sized centre bore. If they are for a diesel jimny, then they are hopefully the same for me as they were for you. The calipers look a straightforward swap. did you get the discs from a UK supplier?
By the way, i had a closer look at my swift engine and the throttle body is a drive-by-wire electronic type, so probably no great use to me for any improvement in the jimny. it looks like it is slightly larger bore, and the intake manifold is totally different shape.

They are genuine ebay parts for around £30
Order a Liana TB from fleabay.... I paid £28 delivered and was pleased at that!
Remove the Jimny manifold and modify it off the engine...easier to clean that way
I'll have to check my wife's Vitara to see if it has the same calipers...it has the same pads Mintex MDB1690.

Try revving it in neutral and see what it does. It seems odd that it would be fine up until 5,500rpm but have nothing after that. If it's reaching the rev limiter you will hear the distinctive 'wa-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba' as the revs cut back.

Old M13A VVT:
And todays progress:
Luckily, work are building a new office/workshop for themselves so was able to persuade the boss to let me do it in there
Now... what i really need are torque settings for the various bits i have taken apart. I know which were the tight buggers, but not what they should be set to?
useful to know torque settings would be:
Intake manifold
exhaust manifold
rocker cover
flywheel
clutch, etc
engine to gearbox bell housing
sump pan
belt tensioner
anything else you think i have missed?!
Thanks all,
Riccy

Put a scan tool on and watch the O2 sensor reading, if it goes lean then you don't have enough fuel.

managed to get all the bits needed swapped over onto the 1.6 lump:
Treated some rust with a bit of buzzweld i had left over while i could get at it:
But have come up with a water pump problem, so will need to sort out a new hose tomorrow. Managed to get it fitted back in with exhaust, clutch, etc all back on. just need to sort that pipe, stick inlet manifold back together and plug in wiring again, fluids.
