Are there no single axle lightweight braked trailers that would do what you want or something you could convert to brakes by changing suspension units ??
At least then there would be no legal problems.

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)

Yeah all the main players do something on a theme but they are wicked expensive new and seem to have residual values and scarcity that would make the most desirable collector car green with envy. I know it's a tool to do a job as part of the business but new ones would require selling a big lot of product to cover the cost. Plus there's the added benefit of such a thing being obviously new to the thieving gits that can't leave stuff that ain't their's alone.

I went through all of this and ended up with an Ifor Williams GD84 (8ftx4ft). It's a braked trailer and 375kg empty, so light for the size. It has proper leaf spring suspension rather than the stiff indespension style units. It has a gross weight of 1,400kg, so well matched to the Jimny's towing capacity. I paid around £1200+vat 9 months ago and it has already paid for itself with the amount of use it gets. On top of that, rough looking 15 year old versions of the same trailer are still selling for £1000, so buying new was a no-brainer.

Just my 2 penneth!

Ifor williams gd trailers would be great but by the time of specing up a Gd64 with the livestock kit they start to make your eyes water and whilst a Gd64g is cheaper it is fixed body so less versatile. Arghhhh! Such a simple decision, so very much heart ache.

You will feel it on long inclines but you will be fine though as mentioned above if you have none standard uncorrected gearing you will suffer more

This subject has been covered many times.I cant go into the ins and outs again but pulling a braked trailer rated at 1400kg even if its empty is illegal with a jimmny.I know its stupid but thats the way it is,somethng to do with the trailers stated gross weight.

Not true if you have a full trailer license or are old enough to not need one. However if you passed recently, haven't done the trailer test and want to take advantage of the 'towing up to the unladen weight of the vehicle' rules then the gross weight of the trailer would need to be de-rated to less than the unladen weight of the Jimny.

No it isn't. It used to be, but it isn't anymore. I can quite legally tow my big 12ft twin deck sheep trailer with a mam of 3500kg with my Jimny if I want to, I just can't carry more than 150kg in it. The limiting factor is the gross train weight of the towing vehicle for what you are able to tow, as long as you don't exceed the mam of the trailer if it is lower than that allowed by the vehicle train weight.
