I had one welded to my axle.

That is part of the reason my front axle is in bits, to repair the dsmage it causes to the axle. It puts excess pressure where it attaches to the axle

This is something that has been causing me some thought at the moment.

I have had a welded diff guard which was a work of art made by my clubs fabrication guru and welded on by him and it did not cause me any problems.

I have now had to change my front axle due to having possibly bent it or the kingpins and now have a good axle on the front again.

I was going to cut the old diff guard off and get it welded back on, but it will need some cutting down first though as it caught on the panhard rod a little at full droop on the passenger side.

The diff guard has some marks on it from being hit too, which makes me want to have oe, but in our old SJ we got by without one then again, we are far more extreme now and do go to the lakes and dales and get silly on the rocks!

Having said that we have more control with the rocklobster so don;t need to use momentum - ie: drive like mad over big rocks hoping not to break something to not stall the engine!

What did the welding to the diff housing with the guard do to your axle Martin? It;s a mod many people do to many off roaders - do you think the diff casing is a bit thin for the heat? Perhaps if it is thin that's another reason for the diff guard!

Oh dear - I don;t know?
