I have to admit I have no personal experience with the CVT box. I just remember when they were under development the lowest ratio was a bit high so they struggled at lower speeds. It could be that Rover solved the problem.

If it's just the throttle body that is ruined it may be easiest to just replace it rather than going for an SU. Having said that I built a Reliant Kitten based buggy many years ago and the SU on it seemed to handle being bashed around off road, at least until a con rod exited the crank case at high velocity.

Looks interesting. Roughly 130HP so it should have plenty of go in a light buggy. I found an engine weight online of 150KG which seems a bit porky but it's difficult to trust online engine weights - you don't know if they are for the bare engine or with all ancillaries attached.

130 bhp is probably twice what i need   but hey hoe better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it lol                                                                    i dont know if im going to bid on that rover   it will probably be a  £500 engine by the time its here,   i might go the mgf route  more capacity  but its most likely going to be a manual if i go that way

I like the table idea. By the way, how many gearboxes do you have tucked away there?

the metro engine has a nice flat sump so i can sit it on the table and wind it up/down and tilt it ill im happy then make the engine mounts,   and gearboxes  dunno im scared to count
