Bit more today... not much though, as I woke up with a fond attachment to the toilet shall we say...

But, the garage around the corner had offered me the loan of their brake pipe flarer this morning, so I needed to do that and one other little job, so I just worked the morning... 



Ahh, I was expecting something rather different to Alan's antique one...  

After nipping round to the garage I popped in the shop for a cuppa and found the postman had been -

 

Banjo bolts, just in time!



Back to the flaring tool... it worked on the third attempt... the block has to be extremely tightly bolted to hold the steel brakeline in place... and you don't like to go too tight with someone else's tool... but I got the hang in the end!  

 

In place after the pipe was rolled around a "pulley wheel" type former that was also in Alan's box of tricks...

 

I was just finishing the banjo bolt on the other side when, speak of the devil... Alan! he called in whilst passing from the local plumbers and coal merchants, and had a quick socially distanced chat and and a look at the buggy out on the drive...

He'd been tinkering again! -

 

And had made me a custom key ring from my Avatar on this fine forum



I hadn't seen Alan for over six months! So these were my late Christmas presents!

 

The other one... a Gigglepin Stump Hook which should also fit in the faux jerry can with my tree strop...

My last job of the morning...?

 

Squeeze the Boogie in as far left and forwards as possible to make room for our new boiler to be delivered on Friday... our 22 year old one is no longer up to the job of the 24 radiators in our house, so it's the size of a washing machine, and all the bits that come with it...

That unfortunately means I probably won't be able to get near the buggy on Sunday and might have to have the day off!

But yes... like any revovery equipment, needs to be used with extreme caution...

Nothing worse than a Hi-Lift Jack in my opinion / experience, lethal in the wrong hands...!

As an aside for a friday giggle...

When I was working on the Boogie's brakes on Wednesday I had a cuppa and one of Jones' Pies excellent products as they are usually full to the brim with lovely filling...

Only...

 

This time I had an air Pastie!! 

At the time I chuckled \about it and went back in the shop to get a Steak and Ale Pie and put the pastie in the fridge to complain to the pie-man on Thursday morning when he next delivered..

I then thought I had seen them on Facebook, so I sent them a message -

 

And they offered to compensate me with some free replacement pies!

Of course I accepted, and then thinking about it stood at my till... I sent them some pictures of the bonnet mounted pie-warmer on the Boogie with a link to t's "development" on this fine forum, to which they replied...

 

LOL! It'll soon be "The Boogie, sponsored by Jones' Pies" !!!

Bit more today... only the new boiler was in the way...

 

So I stuck a (bread) trolley under it and rolled it next door to the shop and popped it in the storeroom...

First job was to change the front number plate back to the old one it's registered as...

Second job was to fit a seal to the filler plug on the front diff (thanks to Martin's store for that!)

Third job was to slide around the painted concrete floor checking everything was in place, wires ty-wrapped neatly, all nuts and bolts nice and tight...

Then...

 

As the Boogie (as it is now to be called thanks to Alan's keyring - see a few posts back in this thread) has GV alloy wheels on it, they are very tight round the nuts, this box spanner works well but the handle slides in and out, and often falls out...!

 

Cut the M10 'joining nut' in half and force it down the centre until it meets the opposite end's holes...

 

And then thread the bolt through it and lock it all in place with a nyloc nut on the pointy-out threads...

Then I was able to take the wheels off in turn, and...

 

Bleed the brakes, with the assistance of our eldest daughter

 

Who put that convulted snorkel hose in the way?

And, ummm...

 

 

I think it's finished!!!

Just waiting now to see what happens with the COVID lockdown(s) as to when we're allowed out to greenlane, and then I'll insure it and take it for the MOT... Gulp!

There is a few tinkering / nice-ities to do to keep me busy in the meantime though -

iPad mount
Alan's Potti mount (map reading light / magnifier)
Storage needs sorting for recovery equipment / maps / butties (when we're not eating hot pies!) 
Tool bag needs restocking after a year off!
