The pie tray is inspired. Looks like there was room to do a hidden version with a bracket to not cut the bonnet?

Ah, yes, but...

1) That would then be a copy of the Buritto Box, not at all British-ised ;)

2) Brett doesn't stop long enough to open bonnets and retrieve the pie / pastie, it has to be "quick-release"

Half a day today ;)

Started with a cooked breakfast after working until 9am, and then took the dogs out for a five mile walk, and then...

Pushed the buggy out and tidied the garage...

And then turned it round...

I was going to push it, but it's a lot of effort, so I thought I'd just try... gingerly switched the battery feed to the engine compartment ON, turned the key, and.... Ummm.... it started and ran first turn of the key! :woohoo: Gob Bless the Jimnys! So I jumped in and carefully turned it round in the road and back into the garage...

Back on the dollys and pushed to the edge for work to commence on the other side starting Sunday...

Checking all the pieces to the jigsaw are here

So there's the oval box for the edge of the bonnet, box section to make the inner wing, and the door post / edge, and the A-pillar tube...

And at the back - the 4"x2" piece will be cut in half lengthways to make the half door top, and the boxing in of the back of the cab... And the elliptical tube is clamped in place for looks...

That fresh "lunchbox" (Lockright type but cheaper brand) locker is gripping well! Some oil in the diff would probably help!

I'm having second thoughts about the colour...

I think yellow might be a bit garish for greenlaning?... and I'm therefore considering keeping it blue to match the V5 too, which should make registration simpler...

There's a multitude of blue shades...

Noooooooooooooooooo! Or if you do please do it in a screaming eye melting shade of blue. This would look wrong in anything quiet and subtle!

Oooh, blue chrome! That would be magnificent. Possibly not cheap though.

Looking great mate! Why not Raptor it for ease of first paint and repairing the paint after T&S lanes. Albeit you might need some repairs in that after a T&S lane!

I think yellow could work though, depending upon shade. Think G4 Discovery yellow or even BT Yellow.

Yes, I would really like it bright yellow... I already have the paint, it’s ‘JCB Yellow’ agricultural machine enamel.

Having turned the buggy round and thought about the enormity of what’s left to do...

  • The other side of the rear of the cab needs boxing in the same as the driver’s side
The passenger door top needs boxing in
The front ‘wing’ and battery / washer mounts need making
The A-pillar tube needs shaping and fitting
    The snorkel needs finishing off
The tree wires need finishing off
The doors need new door cards making with door pull handles
The mirror guards need finishing and fitting
    The inside needs bed liner
The outside all needs a light sanding and final paint
All the wiring needs doing to the lights
A new clutch needs fitting (noisy thrust bearing)
The engine needs a new radiator, belts, plugs, etc...
    A new windscreen needs fitting
    MOT Inspection

... so realistically I’m not going to make the mid-August trip with the lads...

... so I’m now aiming for the BigJimny Meet in October! B)

I'm sure that if you asked nicely you might get takers on a buggy building party. If only we had a vaccine for covid....

Good day in the garage today, achieved what I had in my mind for the day...

I started by cutting a 4"x2" length of rectangular box in half... half for boxing up the rear of the cab, and the other half to be the top of the half-door...

I then cut the other elliptical tube diagonal and welded it in place...

And blended the top into the original soft-top hoop...

A tiny bit of filler to make it erfect, and some paint...

The back of it...

Inside the top...

And the outside, nicely blended in...

Stand back and admire the matching pair B)
