I get this, but you could wave 15-18k cash and get quite a lot of cars that technically will be better than a Lada. Or a better investment. I'm even sure you could buy a clean Land Cruiser Amazon for that money too. I know where I'd be out of those three.
But it's a brand new car, that's Billy basic at best. It's also wildly different, which I think is where the appeal is. I'd like one. Perhaps second hand but nevertheless I think they're a bit cool.

If I had the money and space I'd buy one of those Ladas, always liked the looks.

The Land Cruiser Amazon will be reliable, as it's a Toyota.
But it's a great big wallowing barge of a thing. l would rather have the Lada

LHD isn't so bad in the UK. But does depend on your exact usage. Wouldn't bother me too much.Left hand drive only. So no thanks.

A ten or so years old land cruiser vs a new lada vs a 3 ish years old Jimny vs a handbagged land rover between 15 and 20 years old? Hmmm what would I do? Oh yeah that's right I spent my money on the only sensible option. JIMNY!

l can certainly see your point.
And it's exactly what we did, traded my missus's 2005 Defender for a Jimny SZ5
She absolutely loves the Jimny!

Yokohama Geolanders, Sony head unit, NAUTILUS Air Horn, DRL conversion, Rear cargo space, Elvis Bobblehead, transfer Guard, Indian hanging Elephant, Koni Heavy track dampers, Custom SS exhaust, Voodoo Doll, Adventure Rack with LED ight bar, vintage ERIBA caravan usually attached (yes it's slow)

Yes I fancy a Lada.
It's got a retro cool feel about it, so if I had more money than sense I would get one. Don't really care which side the steering is on, always manage ok, until I drive through McDonald's
But I plan to keep my G3 for as long as possible and having got the new vehicle experience out of my system, would not get new again.

In Russia it costs three times less than Jimny. That's how we call us (jimny lovers) — club of three Niva's.

I do like the Niva and it's ruggedness but being LHD and having a poor towing capacity (100kg) rule it out for me.
I naively thought a Dacia Duster would be another cheap 4wd option but they are near enough £20k for a 4wd one! That's a lot of money for a cheap car.
