Hehe, we technically don't have green lanes up here, what we do have is unincorporated roads which, whilst technically being roads, nobody maintains them. Often covered by one of these glorious signs:

Personally know of a few around my way (Loch Lomond) which can get you to some lovely spots up hills, I know there is some beach routes off the NC500 which are supposed to be amazing for camping. Just need to look out for ramblers mind, they can be vicious.

Sorry but as you can tell this would have clashed with the big Jimny meet. It will still be happening but probably early 2020. Information to follow.

Enjoy yourself - should be great. Pie Shop in Lochinver great for any food (not just pies).

Remember the Avon Skin So Soft - for the midges!

There plenty of YouTube videos on the route but there is also a Flickr group for photographs of the North Coast 500. Here's a link www.flickr.com/groups/northcoast500/pool/
It will show some of the amazing scenery for anyone who is unfamiliar with the area.

I did it in the 1980's (in my then new XR2) before it became a tourist marketing thing (including a couple of days in Orkney) and did it again in May 2017 in my classic car, taking a leisurely 7 days which included an extra day at the start exploring around Inverness and extending the end down the west coast with some island visits (Skye and Bute) and four ferry trips.. It was a lovely though eventful trip. We stayed in B&B accommodation and the biggest challenge in planning was finding availability for one night per location. I note that the Premier Inn in Inverness is mentioned which is where friends stayed. For us however, we stayed in lynver.co.uk/ which was extremely comfortable and had the best breakfast I've ever had.

The pie shop in Lochinver piesbypost.co.uk/ is nice enough, though was expensive to eat in if I recall. The best pies I've had are either from a butchers in Berwick upon Tweed, or from Mhor bread in Callander (lovely steak and haggis). We liked the area around Lochinver so went back later in the same year, hiring a local cottage for a week. We've had a number or Scottish west coast holidays since.

Hope you guys have a great trip when you eventually get to go.
