....if the beast has been stationary for a week or more something is seizing in or around one of the front wheels.

In 2wd the car won't move at all, it's as if the drivers front brake is seized on but it isn't the brakes, car dives to the front drivers corner if I try to move forward. In low ratio 4wd it takes some encouragement with the throttle before a loud mechanical thump/clunk and the car starts moving. Once it's moving, no worries at all and it doesn't seize on again until stationary for more than a week.

Any ideas what this could be?

Cheers

Toby

How do you know it isn't the brakes?

Best will be to leave it for a week, then jack up the drivers front wheel and carefully try to turn it, then if it won't move, take the wheel off, carefully remove the brake calliper and try again.

Could be some nasty Big Dog is weeing up that wheel and the brake pads are rusting onto the disc.

Otherwise could be water in the wheelbearing making it seize, but I'd expect some noise once it started to turn.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Mine does this sometimes and its the rear shoes binding to the drum. Often happens if I have been out in mud and shit and have not cleaned them out :woohoo:

Handbrake seizing on. Try leaving it in gear.

What is this "cleaning" of which you speak?

I'll get it up on a jack next time and have a go at it, see if I can suss it out.

The plot thickens - It's starting to seize up after a couple of days, car will roll forward and backwards an inch or two before hitting whatever it is that is stopping the car moving. Again, I'll be able to get it moving in 4wd low with a big clunk to get past whatever it is that is blocking movement.

Any ideas where to look? Transfer Box is also making a lot of noise and awaiting replacement with a rock lobster - Could it be related to the TB?

Cheers all
