Hi all,
Just thought I would show you a roof rack I picked up at the weekend. I was actually driving back from the BigJimny meetup and had organised to collect this on the way home.
Our Jimny will be heading to Iceland and/or Norway next year with a tent on the top so I wanted a custom roof rack to accommodate. It's similar to one I have seen on this forum before (a post from a few years ago). The next stage is to hook up some spot lights to it on each side and then get a tent and side awning attached. It is quite wide as I want to have the tent open up off the back of the car, instead of coming off the side which would have allowed the rack to be 10cm smaller in width. Weight is around 19kg directly bolted to the roof.
Here's some pictures (please ignore the dirty car, I haven't had time to give it a proper clean yet!)

I noticed recently whilst looking at rental options that you can hire jimnys with roof tents in Iceland. Not as cool as taking your own but depending on how long you go for it may be a cheaper option.

Yes we had seen that. I think they have the pop-up style tent? A few videos floating around on YouTube as well - that was the inspiration in a way.

It looks like it pops up rather than folds out.
Tbf when I've looked at costs of taking my own vehicle I've looked at it from Scotland. It didn't occur to me to check it out via Norway...
We've been twice and have always rented. Plan to do the same again next year. But I would love to go for a longer trip in my own vehicle so might explore that for the future
