Intermittent poor cold start was created by Caulkheader
Hi - I have a 64 pate Jimny, my second one. Its done 3k so far. Recently its failed to start first crank when cold and when it does its missing like hell for the first couple of seconds and occasionally when its still warming up it misses.

I didn't have the problem with my old Jimny and the dealer is suggesting they all do it, they won't scan for fault codes. I am going to try a more local dealer as its obviously under warranty.

I wondered if any one on here has any ideas that I could suggest to them when I take it in.

Cheers

You shouldn't be having to make suggestions to them, mate, just raise the subject of "Trading Standards", I think you may then get a somewhat different response :)

Our 55 plate VVT is as sweet as a nut to start even in the cold weather, so the dealer is talking sh*t. Even my 03 plate that last ran in October 2013 started and ran OK the other week

Just tell them your problem and to repair it, they are legally bound to rectify faultts under warranty.

Had a call back from the local (better) dealer today. It appears that they have another 64 plate Jimny with exactly the same problem. It is weather related and is either ignition or fuel. As it can't be replicated (it's intermitent) they are escalating it to Suzuki technical. Will keep you posted.

That's better news. I would report the first dealer to Suzuki for their handling of your problem. Disgraceful.

Mine is exactly the same but is going in shortly so maybe I will have an answer. A couple of times it was so bad I thought it wasn't going to start :(

Would seem that there is a problem with the newer cars then. Please let me know if they resolve this and I will keep this up to date with any progress I make.

Cheers

Still no update, there are two cars at my dealers - both under six months old with this problem, one is an auto. Suzuki technical say there isn't a problem.

Because it is intermitent the dealer is having problems diagnosing the problem.

I can reduce the frequency by turning the ignition on and waiting for the lift pump to stop, but it is still doing it once a week or so particularly in cold weather. Yesterday I had to crank it three times before it caught and then it ran for five seconds or so, very lumpy and wouldn't rev.

Adam - any news on yours?

Mine does this sometimes it's like it has flooded it's carburettor(I know it's fuel injection) but once it is spinning it cleans it's throat and is fine , done it twice or 3 times in the last two years but I have never thought more of it. If you find the cause let us know.
