I don't know about your logic on the aircon not using more fuel than driving with the windows open Darth. Around town you don't spend enough time at any speed for the windows being open to make a difference but the air con will. This is especially so on small engined cars where the engine has to make an effort to run the air con.

So it will make a difference. My 2.0 Fiesta is awfully different with the air con on. That's a 2.0L!

I obviously don't drive gently enough Kirky...lol
Tried it on a 2.0 tdi A1 I had and it made no difference and on the wife's 1.4 Jazz and didn't notice any difference

I think more modern designs are better. My K11 Nissan Micra almost came to a stop when the compressor cut in. An exaggeration but you know what I mean.

The 1.6 diesel Fords I drive at work don't notice it's on either but a Jimny I can only imagine would hate it.

The difference in mpg is much less than opening windows

Is there never a time when you can have the windows closed and have the aircon off.

I open my windows for elbow room. lol

Aircon on 50% heat, full fan in the winter does the job much better than non-aircon on 05.30 frosty mornings ;)
