hi everyone,
I have a problem refilling gear box oil, I just changed the rear seal and drained it however when I went to take the refill plug off, I noticed some idiot had rounded it out and mangled it up previovsly
I heard you can refill it through the speedo cable but I cant find it for love nor money. I have took off a sensor on top of the gear box which im GUESSING is the reverse sensor?? Is it possible to refill it from there????or can someone shed some light to where the speedo cable goes in.
Many thanks
Steve

No Speedo cable on a Jimny, there is a sensor on the transfer box for speed.
I think you probably could fill through the reverse switch hole but I'd check a gearbox diagram to make sure.
Gold Jimny the best colour (sold)

1.3 litres Have you tried a 10mm square removal tool as opposed to a 3/8in square drive. The extra size does make a big difference? I have got a couple of chewed up ones out recently using the correct size drive. I think pouring that amount of thickish oil through a small hole will take forever! Semi synthetic 75w-85, 75w-90 or 80w-90 API GL4

The correct tool, without a doubt, makes all the difference.
The 3/8" square drive is only 9.5mm, not 10mm.....my advice would be to purchase a 10mm drain plug tool specific to the job, clean out the recess in your filler plug using a sharp bradawl or something similar, soak in Plus-gas for a day and try recovering the situation...you may just surprise yourself
I'm planning to live forever.....so far, so good !!

I do have the right tools but it's completely rounded out some would say "fubar". It didn't take that long to fill up to be honest I had a suction gun. I'm going to call out a thread doctor to remove the fill plug and replace it with a new one.
