Actually it gets a lot more interesting around 2.40 mins. A great little lane.

As with all off-road videos, the view you get doesnt do the terrain justice at all. It was quite rough going at certain points. The car got a few micro scratches thats for sure.

Nice little vid.

Have you bookmarked your thread to find it again more easily ;) ;)

I guess "off" roading varies by ones expectations. And I do agree, the camera often makes things look more tame than they may have felt in person. Although that lane didn't look bad at all. Think I took my MG Maestro through worse :silly:

A nice little lane this is. It was my first ever green lane. I got my spanking new paintwork scratched down here, nowadays i take my pruners. Spend more time pruning than actual dtiving some days.

Embarked on a sound reduction project. Sound proofing is just inacurate.

Bought some Noico sound mat for stage 1.

This stuff is not made in china, but rather Russia.

So getting this stuff down is fun in my book, and ive really enjoyed it thus far

So I behan with the rear wheel arch. The project goes in 3 stages. 1 is the dampner, for panel resonance and making the sides sound like a safe door when ye knock on em. In the wet, this has made a huge difference. And stone flicks can barely be heard.

I overlaped the edges with sealing foil. No moisture can get under the stage 1, but just to seal and doubly make sure i taped it off.

Next was the closed cell foam for stage 2. Seal from moisture and condensation build up, also to create a touch of in car sound softening for the stereo and finaly to create a de coupling for the stage 3 MLV layer.

Foam being added

And more with tape.

Also the same with rear quarter panels

Next was the rear jack caryying area.

And under the rear seats.

Stuff been used is as follows:
Noico stage 1 panels 2mm
Noico stage 2 8mm closed cell foam
Sealing thermal tape
Stage 3 MLV Mass loaded vinyl

Next job is to stage 1 the front of the jimmers, doors, floor, rear door, firewall and roof.

Expectations are key here, many folks believe they will silence their ride, and that would kill the spirit of the jimny for me. Instead i wish to just quiten down the road noise a touch, and create a nicer place to be, with good sound from my stereo and less engine roar.

More to come as the project continues. Took me 2 days thus far

But a jimny isnot a loud car? Not like a land rover. I have mates with mercs and bm's and in real terms they are no quieter, if anything the drone off the low profile tyres is more invasive than a bit of motor noise in a Jimny. At least Dreadnaught is quiet, are the new ones that bad?

Should of explained, the 8mm is for the areas it fits, like wheel wells. The foam also peels down to 2 mm just as use as decoupler for the MLV. so 6mm added in total. Under the carpet there is recyled foam, that is removed and there are no issues.

A bit of noise reducing improvement is always welcome. The rain and crud in the wheel wells is almost eliminated. Its worth it to me. Others may feel it os not needed or nessersary, and thats perfectly fine.

All the best.

Thats fair enough I just didn't think they were that noisy to start with. Are you going to put the foam stuff behind your headliner too for some thermal insulation?

I did a similar job when I fitted rear speakers. It was worth it in my opinion.

Ahhaa... interesting point my lord, funny you should mention, as i am just about to take it off in a mo. Guy on FB has taken his head liner out no problem. The stage 1 will work wonders with the wind noise. Pictures to follow.

Cheers.

Hi Grima, thanks for the vote.of confidence!! Its a lenghty job and its easy to feel disheartened. Did you do much sound proofing?? How much of the car did you manage to do?
