Few trips since I've got it, including the famous Transfagarasan:

Additionally, I had to go through full service schedule, engine oil, gearbox, transfer case, diffs oil replacement, full vacuum circuit, solenoids, hubs, kingpins and last but not least, rust treatment, all DIY:

...
yes ... it's mud....

fixed on both wheels

rust removal and welding (only one small area) and treatment (Chelade) for areas with superficial oxidation:

New winter tyres:

The strongest and best way to mount that basket is to remove the rails and bolt it directly to the roof. It won't let you carry any more load up there but it will be a lot better than relying on the existing brittle plastic feet.

I do understand that, but I'm afraid of water leakage after "tampering" the OEM rails.
Given that the rails have a limited load limit of ~40kilos and the roof rack weights about 5 kilos now (with mounts and paint it will gain 1-2 more kilos), I would say that I'm having a safe 30kilos of load to carry.

In the end the purpose of the rack is to carry some light luggage when travelling and 99% of situations will just hold the roof lights/ledbar.

Ah no, the rails are held on by captive studs protruding up from the roof, there no path for water ingress.

As 11/60 says i have had no problems with water
Also if you actually removed one of the roof bars
You will see just how flimsy they are

Quick question: recommended AT/MT tyre to fit the standard rim and size (205/70 r15)?

For winter I intend to keep the dedicated snow tyres, but for the other 3 seasons I would like to use somenthing suitable for tarmac/mud but also for road use.
