I could live with a swing away carrier if it had a rail mechanism connected to the door so it opened and closed in sync with the rear door.

Just caught up with this and Jersey Jimnys. They are similar in aim but done in individual ways.
You've some fantastic ideas with the roof basket & light pod etc.
When & where are you planning on going?

You will love the Pyrenees my girlfriend and I toured through right to the Mediterranean coast last year the scenery is amazing and off road it would be even better
are you getting the ferry down to Santander or driving down?

The only way i can see is getting an ORA rear bumper and welding mounts for a swing away style wheel carrier.
So did a quick model to prompt some ideas at work its only rough concept for now.
the tire now sits about 150mm higher to make the light more visible and the tow bar easier to get to.
also have painted it and mounted a number plate and number plate light on the gerry holder.
im about to cut off the wings of the bar as they look hideous, the mounts also need to be braced to prevent lateral movement.
and i strongly advise not to do recoveries with this bar.
