Compared to manually operated free wheeling wheel hub heads, pneumatically operated wheel hub heads have two advantages:
1. Convenience of use - there is never a need to exit the vehicle to switch them.
2. Almost no risk of them freezing in very cold weather and thus not allowing to be (un)locked - due to requirements of achieving vacuum, they are much better sealed from the outside than manual hub heads are, reducing ingress of water which can later freeze.
