You can have a knackered CV joint and working 4wd.
If you have a regular clunk/clang on full lock it sounds like a worn CV joint. Noise frequency should change depending on car speed, speed up = noise speeds up. Noise should happen at car park speed if you want to get a mate to drive round you.
Irregular noise that doesnt really speed up or happens more on bumpy road is more likely to be a ball joint/track rod end/anti roll bar link/wheel bearing.
What made you suspect the ball joints? Is there play in them?

Remote diagnosis is often nearly impossible.
Can you explain further what you mean by 4 wheel works well?
Can you upload a video with the noise so we can listen?
Worn Cvs of this type can still work when worn and clicking.

King pin bearings or a track rod end. It won't be the CV joints because they aren't turning unless you are parking with it in 4wd.
