I wouldn't have thought it would make that much difference tbh, both valves should be closed and sealed except for a few seconds after you switch 4wd in or out.
There is a spigot on the inlet manifold that connects to the rubber pipe that goes to the vacuum control valves under the battery- cap it at the manifold end.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
