I can see why you don't want the rad out on an auto. That fluid is a pain, having the cooker in the rad.

I took mine out just to adjust the belts - it really does make things much easier...

Thank you all for your kind support and suggestions, it was indeed the fact it is an Automatic that put me off removing the main radiator, due to the necessary auto fluid loss from the inner radiator within the main radiator. It actually was an easy quick job. I drained some coolant to allow top hose removal. I unbolted the four thermostatic fan nuts and removed it and the plastic fan cowling, giving easy access to the v-belt tensioner and what remained of the crankshaft pulley. I will cut / modify the plastic fan cowling before refitting it, to make future removal easier.
