It would fit, but you would need to modify other bits to get the selector fitted and use a earlier prop.
After that the gearing would be off so you would need to fit the earlier transfer box or a lobster box.

Out of interest, since a replacement VVT gearbox, if required, is hard to find and expensive, wouldn't it be cheaper to rip out the engine and gearbox and replace both with salvage parts? And you could have a 1.6
