I’ve been in touch with Suzuki GB regarding the auto headlights switching on and off quite quickly when driving through (not particularly dark) shadows and that it could be misinterpreted by oncoming traffic or traffic waiting to pull out from a side road, into thinking you’re flashing them and allowing them to pull out. They haven’t had any other reports of this, and they say it’s not adjustable, so they aren’t able to do anything about it.
I know a few of us think they are a bit too sensitive too so drop them an email - This email address is being protected from spambots. A prompt reply from Suzuki.

" Dear Steve,

Thank you for your recent Email to Suzuki Customer Services.

I have spoken with the Suzuki Technical Department, they have explained that unfortunately, there is no way to adjust the sensitivity, there is only the option to turn off the automatic setting. I would advise, if you feel that there is an issue with the vehicle that you allow your nearest Authorised Suzuki Dealership to investigate. They would then be able to report any findings to our Technical Support Team for further review.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to contact us and reassure you that your concerns have been logged on our database; which will be inputted on to our factory report.

I am sorry we are unable to provide you with a more favourable response. In the meantime please do not hesitate to contact us again should you require anything further in the future on 08085 011959, option 3.

Kind regards

Marc

As we thought. Lights set to "off" for daytime driving.

At least you tried...

Mine went from AUTO to OFF on the way back from the dealer, exactly the same behaviour as the Renault Nissan- they come on even in solar flare conditions instantly with the slightest shadow, but take ages to go off.

Annoyingly, on the Nissan Connect version of the Bosch unit (with knobs and buttons on) you can knock out the display going into night mode with the lights, on the Suzuki version (with greasy fingerprints all over the screen) you can't.

With them on OFF you don't get the "features" like the lights all coming on in the dark when you press the plipper.

I suspect I will join the other "no lights in the dark" drivers though, as the dash lights up for no reason all the time, and usually I put the lights on when I can't see the speedo, which will never happen now......

(And while I'm whinging about the speedo- why is it on the wrong side, and why does the rev counter have 10 20 30 40 etc. on, not 1 2 3 4? I keep looking at the wrong one  )

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

I was following a Kia somthingorother earlier today and that kept switching lights on & off when it went into the shade from a lorry. Looks a right pest

I had seen this gadget (link: www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/automatic-lights-on-and-off ) and was thinking of it for the project car. Will bin that idea now i think.

Actually, it is a pretty tough thing to do, switching on the lights with light sensors, you want them to stay on with bright streetlights, but come on at dusk.

It would have been trivial to simply use the gps data to switch them on half an hour after sunset and off half an hour before sunrise too

Got a similar issue with mine, had people raising their arms in front thinking I’m flashing my lights at them, I’ll email Suzuki, just asked the main dealer about the issue as it’s in for it’s first service at 12,500miles

Glad to read it's not just me.

I've had my Gen4 about 5 days.
Driving from Telford to Bristol yesterday later afternoon, I noticed that even passing under very very small/slim bridges turned on the headlights. Literally a nanosecond of darkness.

I the noticed that as it got a bit darker the headlights stayed on (good) but Waze on Android Auto, and lights on the dashboard, kept lighting up or switching to light/dark mode (Waze) like a friggin disco!!

I'm sad I have to switch off anything automated on a vehicle. But I would trade the Jimny's over-sensitive auto-lights for a rain-sensing windscreen wiper

No you wouldn't ;)

I have auto wipers on the Renault Nissan.

When it is raining and they are on auto, the screen gets more and more obscured, until I can't see a thing, and then, just after the impact  , they wipe.

On the other hand, in complete dryness, they come on like billy-o and you can see the slivers of rubber shaving off the blades.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
