Carrying a bike on the roof was created by MilkyRon
Looking for some advice... One of my all the gear no idea hobbies is cycling. This took a bit of a back seat when I got a dog so decided I'd start cycling with him. He took to it pretty well (he runs in front, I haven't bought him a bike). In order to get me and him to and from the local trails I invested in a nice set of Thule Wingbars and cycle carriers. These are fantastic by the way and I highly recommend them.

I haven't tried fitting them to the standard roof rails on the Jim yet. I'm not comfortable installing them and carrying a bike with the 13 year old plastic fixings. The last thing I want is to send a mountain bike through some poor rode users windscreen.

I'm leaning towards picking up one of the JimnyBits roof racks and fitting the Thule cycle carriers to it. Has anyone tried this, do cycle carriers fit? I can always attach the Wingbars to the rack and the carriers to the Wingbars but at that point, I'm carrying the bike pretty high up. I know the roof rack, carriers and bike will put me over the 30kg roof weight limit but to my mind it's a far safer option than the factory roof rails.

I'm also open to any other suggestions. One criteria is that I can still get access to the boot so that the four legged route planner can come with me.

Ta, MilkyRon

I take it that pooch is too big to wear his harness in the front seat and collapse the push iron into the back?

Works perfectly with cheap carrier (to be read as non-Thule).

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure if one bike rack fits they probably all do. Looking at the measurements on JimnyBits it'll be close but it should fit.

Lambert,

He's actually tiny but trying to get him to sit still, even when he's in a harness is a skill I've yet to master.
