New Jimny has 'unacceptable' security

I emailed to see if I could get further information about the test and received this reply:

"Unfortunately any detailed whole vehicle security assessment is only available for insurance purposes which are subject to non-disclosure agreements.
However, the newly launched consumer rating take these findings and provide a more generic reference to its security. To make reference to the detail on our website I can see the Suzuki Jimny SZ5 may not have any insurance recognised alarm system or wheel security. This particular model does not have any keyless entry functionality which is our main focus in advising the consumer further.
Regards"

How ridiculous to include it in a news report about keyless entry!

Just looked out the window and can report that my Jimny is sitting safely on the driveway. Completed a scan of the surrounding grounds an no sign of any 'undesirable types' hiding in the bushes waiting to pounce. Come to think of it have there been any confirmed reports of a S4 being stolen? Maybe I need therapy, maybe the miscreants really are out to steal this easily stolen car?

They tested an SZ5 automatic and say security is unacceptable with two additional statements:

1. This vehicle should expect to have fundamental security features, but not some of the extra layers found on higher-priced vehicles.

2. The vehicle may not have an alarm system. It is recommended that a Thatcham Research certified alarm is added.

I emailed them and highted the spec on the Suzuki UK website... and the reply was “Unfortunately the Alarm/ Immobiliser is not a Thatcham/ UK compliant system”.

So it is not about security. It is about fitting a Thatcham approved alarm, a Thatcham approved immobiliser, and finally Thatcham approved locking wheel nuts. Thatcham’s reputation has just sunk in my estimation. Unfortunate indeed.

so what's the verdict on these, is the standard security adequate or should I invest in a separate alarm immobilizer?

I'm not aware of any being nicked so far. I just bought a Disklok and stick it on whenever I park. Not the most convenient thing in terms of security, but highly rated and nicely visible. I built a little home for it to live in as well 

 

I've got a disklok, good but massively massively overpriced.

If you keep an eye on Halfords, ECP etc, they sometimes knock them out at half price, which is about what they are worth.

They are also specially made with sharp rough parts inside to destroy your leather steering wheel, but luckily they offer an optional wheel cosy for about £12 extra, that should have been included in the first place when it retails over £100!

I bought a £2 eBay Wheel cosy, but I'm  sure that the poundsaver type shops would have similar.

I just drop it on the passenger floor. No doubt it would kill me if the car rolls over, the early yellow ones came with a little napsack that you slid the disklok inside and attached to the seat frame or something with a strap.
